Wilma Marion (Bennett) Lawrence

Wilma Marion (Bennett) Lawrence, 85, a longtime resident of Toronto, Kansas, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia, Kansas. She was born July 21, 1923 in Pawnee Rock, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur R. and Nellie D. (Phillips) Bennett. Wilma was the head cook at the Toronto Schools for many years. On October 1, 1942 in Victoria, Texas, she married Glenn Albert Lawrence. He preceded her in death May 4, 2005. Wilma was a member of the Toronto United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and was actively involved in the Toronto Senior Center. Her survivors include: Two daughters: Mary Underwood of Fredonia, Kansas Connie Carter of Wichita, Kansas One son: David Lawrence of Independence, Kansas One sister: Arlene Hopper of Eureka, Kansas Thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nellie Bennett; her son, Larry Lawrence; and her brothers, John Bennett and Arthur Bennett. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Toronto United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Toronto Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 5:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Wilma"s name with the Larry Lawrence Memorial Scholarship at the Toronto United Methodist Church and donations may be sent to the funeral home.
