Wilma Irene Martin, 86, a lifelong resident of Lafontaine, Kansas, died Friday, April 4, 2008 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born April 22, 1921 in Lafontaine, the daughter of James Perry and Fauna Leesa (McKinney) Mott. She grew up in Lafontaine and graduated from Lafontaine High School. On June 14, 1947 in Neodesha, Kansas, she married Marvin Francis Martin. He survives at their home. She was a longtime active member of the Lafontaine Christian Church where she had been a Nursery Sunday school teacher, supported the Indian Mission and participated in the Willing Workers. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Marvin, include: Four daughters: Leesa Mae Buchanan of Alta Vista, KS Sharon Ann Buchanan of Neodesha, KS Marvine Irene Blair of Elk City, KS Janet Nadine Smith of Newton, KS Eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Scott Jason Buchanan. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Lafontaine Christian Church with Rev. Kenneth Richards officiating. Burial will be in the White Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., with the family receiving friends 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in her name with the Lafontaine Christian Church and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
