William Howard Shoaf, 81, a lifelong resident of Wilson County, died unexpectedly Monday, March 13, 2006 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born August 29, 1924 in Buffalo, Kansas, the son of John and Mamie (Walker) Shoaf. He served in the United States Air Force 1946-1949. In 1985, he retired from General Portland Cement plant, where he had worked in the maintenance department for 32 years. On July 5, 1947 in Carbondale, Illinois, he married Kathleen (Kitty) Hall. She survives at their home in Fredonia. He attended the Calvary Wesleyan Church in Fredonia. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, trapping and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Kitty, include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill & Diane Shoaf of Tulsa, OK; Bob & Ginny Shoaf of Leawood, KS; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce & Phil Sublett of Overland Park, KS; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald & Doris Shoaf of Wichita, KS; Carl & Delores Shoaf of Fredonia, KS; one sister and brother-in-law, Claire & Danny Frasier of Mission, KS; Nine Grandchildren and spouses, Jeff & Kimberly Shoaf of Knoxville, TN; Jennifer & Jamie Austin of Lawton, OK; Julie & Dustin Fuzzell of Bryant, AR; Jennifer & Anthony Gavito of Washington, DC; Tessa & Rebecca Sublett of Overland Park, KS; Matthew, Michael, Meagan Shoaf of Leawood, KS; Two Great Grandsons, Will Shoaf and Wyatt Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Rusk, Winifred Bunker and Carol June Miller; and one brother, John David Shoaf. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Calvary Wesleyan Church in Fredonia with Rev. Jamie Austin and Rev. Dustin Fuzzell officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery near Roper. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, 3:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in his name with American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association and may be sent to the funeral home.
