William (Bill) Clyde Ferrell

April 12, 1934 — April 27, 2021

William Clyde (Bill) Ferrell, 87, left us Tuesday morning, April 27, 2021, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bill was born on April 12, 1934, to Clyde and Lila (White) Ferrell in Peru, Kansas where he grew up with his four siblings, Mary, Sharon, Clark and Howard. Bill received his formal education, from grammar school through high school, in Peru, KS. He went on to get his Teacher Certification, then began teaching in Niotaze, KS where he met, Beverly Arlene Dye. Bill and Beverly married on September 2, 1955 in Peru, KS. They made their home in Niotaze, KS, they divorced in 1978.

Bill was drafted into the United States Army where he served honorably from 1957 – 1959. After the Army Bill continued his career in teaching. He also pursued his own education; first completing his bachelor’s in education in 1966, and his Master’s degree from Pittsburgh State University in 1974. Bill retired from teaching in 1992, during his career he taught in Niotaze, Cedar Vale, Caney and Independence Ks. Bill spoke fondly about his years as a teacher and many times after retirement, adults that Bill had taught as children would thank him for the positive influence he had in their life.

Bill and Edith met in 1995 and married in 1999 in Bartlesville Ok, they made their home in Caney for many years until they moved to Lawrence in October of 2016.

Bill’s retirement included a second career selling real-estate. He had a love for anything John-Deere and one of his favorite hobbies was restoring old tractors. Bill and Edith were members of the Caney Valley Tractor Club and went to many tractor pulls in the area. He loved to show off his 1936 B John Deere and Edith’s 1950 Massey Harris that he restored. Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church in Caney until they moved to Lawrence. Bill and Edith were able to travel to Florida for many years. He loved the sunshine and spending time with their friends from around the world. Bill loved his family and friends, we are thankful for our memories with you; playing dominoes, being on the pontoon, spending time with you while you shared your knowledge on many topics; car repairs, hunting, fishing, caring for animals, cooking and eating! You are loved and will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edith; siblings; Mary (John) Mooney, Sharon (Darrel) Roberts and Howard (Vickie), sister-in-law, Karen Ferrell. children, Kimberly (Preston) Walker, Kirby (Stella) Ferrell, Kathy Agan; step-children Sherrie (Steve) Zelent, Patti (Keith) Doncouse, and Kimberly Johnson; grandchildren Levi (Kelly) Walker, Rachel Walker, Aaron Walker, Misty (Clay) Hayden, Kandis (Brian) Joubert, Jennifer (Greg) Fanucci, Aimee (Brett) Strickland, Joshua (Katelyn) Doncouse, Rebekah (Travis) Zweydoff, Cody (Ryanne) Johnson, and Tiffany Johnson, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lila (White) Ferrell, brother, Clark Ferrell, son-in-law, Hugh Agan, niece; Sherry (Mooney) Howard, nephew; Brad Roberts, grandson; Cory Thompson, and great-granddaughter; Faith Hayden.

Memorial Graveside services will be held 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Robbins Cemetery under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas.
