Wayne Eugene Sell, 87, a resident of Kilauea, Hawaii, died Monday, June 25, 2007. He was born June 4, 1920 in Fredonia, Kansas, the son of Irv and May (Myers) Sell. Wayne was a retired electrical engineer. Among his many accomplishments, he had several electrical patents that were instrumental in oil exploration. He also worked on the NASA Saturn One rocket and pioneered the first solid state smoke detector. In 1941, he married Louise Meck. She preceded him in death in 1978. He later married Orilla Meck Anderson and she preceded him in death in 1996. His survivors include: Daughters: Debra Gochros and her husband, David of Kileaua, Hawaii Lynda Richards of Colorado Springs, Colorado Brothers: Howard Sell of Fredonia, Kansas Ronald Sell of Wichita, Kansas Sisters: Eunice Timmons of Fredonia, Kansas Helen Stebbins of Lawrenceville, Georgia Four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at the Fredonia City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kilauea Seniors Group and may be sent to the funeral home.
