Virginia Ruth Nelson

Virginia Ruth Nelson, 90, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born April 23, 1919 in Fredonia, the daughter of Harry R. and Georgia Mae (Armstrong) Giles. In 1939, Virginia married William Earl Nelson. He preceded her in death November 10, 1979. She was employed as a telephone operator for United Telephone Company in Fredonia for several years. She also owned the Basement Beauty Shop, where she was a beauty operator. Virginia was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia, the VFW Auxiliary, and volunteered many years at the Christian Thrift Shop. Virginia is survived by: Two sons: Larry Nelson of Lenexa, KS Kenneth Nelson of Platte City, MO Two sisters: Margaret Rodriguez of Beaumont, KS Barbara Bird of Oklahoma City, OK Four grandchildren and five great grandchildren She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Lester and Charles Giles and four sisters, Viola Oglesbee, Audrey McClure, Estelle Wells and Peggy Giles. A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Fredonia City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Virginia"s name with the Christian Church Thrift Shop and may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
