VINITA JUNE THORNTONVinita J. Thornton, 81, of rural Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at her home.Vinita June Thornton was born February 7, 1933 in Parsons, Kansas the daughter of Arthur Pittman and Ella Mae (Wiltfong) Pittman. She attended Neodesha schools and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1950.She was united in marriage to Franklin C. Johnson and they later divorced. On July 2, 1975 she was united in marriage to Glenn Thornton and he survives at the home.Vinita worked for ACC in Independence for 30 years and was the first woman painter. She was also a homemaker and bookkeeper. Vinita was a member of the Thayer Christian Church, Women"s Auxiliary and clothes closet both at the church.She loved to read books, sew and crochet in her spare time. She will be remembered for her love of her family especially her brother Kenneth Dewayne Pittman.Survivors include husband Glenn of the home, daughter, Sondra Kay Michelson of Coarsegold, CA, two sons, Franklin C. Johnson of Independence, KS, Arthur Dewayne (AD) Johnson of Cherryvale, KS, stepchildren, Alan Thornton of Larned, KS, Terrie Welton of Tyro, KS, Ron Thornton of Copan, OK, Rick Thornton of Dennis, KS, Jamie Thornton of KC, MO, 7 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday December 31, 2014 at Thayer Christian Church, 8495 Dorn Road, Thayer, KS. Friends may sign the register book from 12Noon until 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, KS. Interment will be in"Harrison Chapel"Cemetery.Memorial remembrances are suggested to Thayer Christian Church and may be left or mailed to funeral home or the church.
