Velma L. McMillen, 88, darling wife and loving companion, and a resident of Derby, Kansas and a former resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Westview of Derby. She was born January 23, 1918 in Wilson County, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas C. and Lovie Margaret (Chamberlain) Gillies. She was a retired hairdresser. On May 6, 1976 in Wichita, she married Herbert McMillen. He survives in Derby. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia, Women"s Mutual Benefit Club, and Eastern Star. Survivors, in addition to her husband Herbert include Three Sons, Thomas E. Steventon of Tarpon Springs, FL; Arnold Ray Steventon of Henderson, NV; Lester Earl Steventon of Derby, KS; Three Sisters, Dorothy Helsel of Wichita, KS; Naomi Good of Wichita, KS; Lu Fink of Fredonia, KS; One Brother, Richard Gillies of Lincoln, NE; 11 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glen and Howard and one sister, Mildred Keller; one son, Ronald Steventon. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia with Rev. Charlotte Coates officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 A.M. in the Church Parlor. A memorial has been established in her name with the First United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
