Velma Ilene Moore

Velma Ilene Moore, 87, a resident of Altoona, Kansas, formerly of West Plains, Missouri, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 18, 1925 in Halstead, Kansas, the daughter of Edmond Pete and Clara Louise (Valdois) Louia. On September 1, 1945 at Howard, Kansas, Velma was united in marriage to Ralph Moore. The Moore"s spent most of their married life in West Plains, Missouri, before moving to Altoona in 2000. They spent 58 wonderful years together until Ralph"s death on March 24, 2004. Throughout the years, Velma was employed various places including Coleman Industries in Wichita, Kansas and Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, but she most enjoyed being a wife and homemaker. Velma was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Altoona. She enjoyed being outside taking care of her yard and flowers and reading to the students at Altoona Elementary School. Velma is survived by her brother, Robert Louia of Altoona, Kansas and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Ralph, her brother Fred Louia; sisters, Pauline Windholtz and Edna Farmer; and nephews, Chuck Farmer and Darrell Louia preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Timmons Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Thomas of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in Velma"s name with First Baptist Church of Altoona and the Altoona Cemetery Fund, and contributions can be sent to or left at Timmons Funeral Home.
