Thomas Conrad Timmons

Thomas Conrad Timmons, 58, a lifelong resident Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, January 26. 2008 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 13, 1949 in Independence, the son of Mark and Nadine (Conrad) Timmons. Tom was a 1967 graduate of Fredonia High School. On December 1, 1968, he was inducted into the United States Navy, receiving Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois; attending Aviation Fundamental School in Memphis, Tennessee; and training on the F-4 Fighter Plane in Miramar, California. In July 1969, he joined the VF-213 Fighter Squadron off the Coast of Vietnam in the Tonkin Gulf on the aircraft carrier, Kitty Hawk. The squadron returned to Miramar in August of 1969, where he advanced to Aviation Mechanic Hydraulics 3rd Class. He was again deployed to Vietnam in July of 1970. He served as a Plane Captain, and when deployed, worked on the flight deck. In August of 1971, he was transferred to NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was honorably discharged on December 1, 1972. Upon his return home, he began his careers as a lifelong, self-employed farmer and an employee of Archer Daniels Midland Corporation in Fredonia for 33 years. On July 9, 1977, as the First Christian Church in Fredonia, Tom married Faye Hall. She survives at their home. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia, the Fredonia Jaycee"s; and Future Farmers of America. He enjoyed refereeing basketball and playing in the local softball league. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Faye, include: his mother Nadine Timmons of Fredonia, Kansas one daughter: Bobbi Hyde of Pittsburg, Kansas one son: James Timmons of Fredonia, Kansas one sister: Mary McGinnis of Lafontaine, Kansas four grandchildren He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Timothy Timmons. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Mike Myers officiating. The family will receive friends at their home this week.
