MANGAN, THERESA PHILOMENA, 74, was called away peacefully to be with our Lord on December 6, 2017.
Theresa was born on April 22, 1943, in Cherryvale, KS. She is predeceased by both her former husband, Robert Redeker, and her subsequent partner in life, Harry Westgate. Theresa leaves behind no children. Theresa is also predeceased by her parents, Gertrude W. and Charles A. Mangan, Sr.; brothers, Charles A. Mangan, Jr., Lawrence Mangan (Delores), John T. Mangan, Patrick Mangan, and Jeremiah L. Mangan; and sisters, Carol Sue (Mangan) Housel, Mary E. (Mangan) Vanderleest and Rose A. (Mangan) Power.
Theresa is survived by and will be dearly missed by two devoted sisters, Gertrude E. (Mangan) Walsh (Eugene), and Marie L. (Mangan) Unterriener (Robert). Her most dear nieces, Kimberly A. Harris and Victoria L. Housel, as well as her caregiving nephews, Eugene R. “Ruck” Walsh, Jr. (Lori) and Phillip R. Unterreiner and all of her many beloved nieces and nephews will cherish her memory always.
Theresa was born a beautiful soul with a broad smile, soft laugh, and warm embrace. She was the eleventh child of Charles and Gertrude Mangan, a cheerleader at Cherryvale High School, graduated Salutatorian, and attended Sacred Heart College in Wichita, KS. She followed her sisters Rose and Em to Colorado where she fell in love with and married Robert Redeker. After her divorce she became a stylish cocktail waitress and met her partner of seventeen years Harry Westgate. Harry’s work took them to Denver, CO., Ventura, CA. and Phoenix, AZ. Theresa was best known as “Aunt Terri” as she treasured each and every one of her nieces and nephews. She opened her home to them through the years and always made time for them. Theresa looked forward to daily calls from her nieces and sisters and anytime family could visit. Returning to and living out her days independently in the home and hometown she was born and raised in was a dream come true for Theresa.
A “Celebration of Life” will be hosted by the family beginning at noon on June 8, 2018, with a Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, in Cherryvale followed by a graveside service at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery, in Montgomery County, followed by an open gathering at Terri’s forever home, the Mangan Farm, 5649 County Road 4900, Cherryvale, KS 67335.
The family proposes memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, be made online to the “Theresa P. Mangan Memorial Fund” of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital http://fundraising.stjude.org. Condolences may also be left on the “Theresa P. Mangan Eternal Guest Book” through the Wickham Family Funeral Home website.
