Theda Vivian Florez

Theda Vivian Florez, 77, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born June 23, 1931 in Fredonia in the house she resided in, the only child of Garvin and Thelma Jane (Chilcote) Potter. Following the death of her mother when she was six years old, Theda was adopted and raised by her grandparents, Bruce and Alta Chilcote. She was a 1949 graduate of Fredonia High School and a graduate of the Wichita Cosmetology School. Theda was married to Keith Son. They were later divorced. On February 17, 1967 in El Dorado, Kansas, she married Chris Florez. He survives at their home. She was a licensed cosmetologist and worked in Fredonia for several years. Her longtime passion was being a care attendant to young and old alike. She was kept busy raising her children, serving as a foster parent to several children, and caring for many, many children at her home daycare. Theda was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Church in Fredonia. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Chris, include: Five Children: Cindy Wickham of Altoona, KS Keven Son of Chanute, KS Jennifer Folger of Ankeny, IA Juan Florez of Wichita, KS Christina Florez of Fredonia, KS 19 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Her parents, her adoptive parents, and twin granddaughters, Alexa and Alana Folger all preceded her in death. Funeral mass will be said at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Church with Father Steve Thapwa officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, 2:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church. A memorial has been established in her name with the Butterfield"s Youth Ranch in Marshall, Missouri and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
