Steven W. Rogers, 74 a lifetime resident of Fredonia, died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born March 13, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Louis William and Margaret (Stevenson) Rogers. He was a 1949 graduate of Fredonia High School, a graduate of Kansas State University, and received his Juris Doctor in 1959 from Washburn University Law School. He served as First Lieutenant in the United States Army Artillery 1953 to 1955, where he was stationed in Germany. He practiced law in Fredonia for 45 years. During this time he also served as the Wilson County Attorney and the City Attorney for Fredonia. On June 8, 1957 in Wichita, Kansas, he married Nancy Canary. She survives at their home. Mr. Rogers was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia, where he served as elder, trustee, and past chairman of the board; Fredonia Chamber of Commerce; Fredonia Lions Club; USD 484 Board of Education Member; Blue Lodge Constellation Lodge; Fredonia Golf Club; Fredonia VFW and American Legion; Beta Theta Pi at Kansas State University; Phi Alpha Delta at Washburn University Law School; Wilson County Bar Association; Kansas Bar Association; and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Survivors in addition to his wife Nancy, include one son & daughter-in-law, David W. and Karen Rogers of Fredonia, KS; one daughter, Susan Heenan of Overland Park, KS; one brother-in-law, Patrick Canary of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Brianne, Carissa and Kaitlyn Rogers of Fredonia, KS and Blake and Kayla Heenan of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Ann Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Steve Brodbeck officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made in Mr. Rogers" name with the First Christian Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
