Stephen Garrett Birdsong Obituary
Stephen Garrett Birdsong, 73 passed away on January 06, 2019 with his family at his side.
Born March 26,1945 in Independence, KS, the son of Johnie Garrett Birdsong and Remola Louise (Plake) Birdsong.
On August 26th,1963 he married his Jr. High School sweetheart & wife of 56 years Mary Ann Rogers.
Steve worked as a heavy equipment operator for JD Huneycutt Construction in Cherryvale for many years, leaving in 1987 when he went to work for Gragg Cabinet Company in Cherryvale until its closing. He retired in 2011 from the Montgomery County Road and Bridge crew, where he worked heavy equipment and received many compliments from the residents along the roads he graded in his district.
Steve was a lifetime member and Past Master of the Masons, Fortitude Lodge #107 A.F. & A.M. He was very passionate about the Cherryvale Alumni Association and was a1963 graduate of Cherryvale High School and proud to have been a "Fighting Cherry".
He was a member of the New Hope Christian Church of Cherryvale. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood burning. Most of all he was known for his captivating smile, joyful laugh and great sense of humor. He loved to joke with everyone he knew.
In addition to his loving wife Mary Ann he is survived by daughters Stephanie (Robert) Bean of Bartlesville, OK and Dyann (Arthur) Beye of Cherryvale, KS. Grandchildren; Paige Beye of Bentonville, AR, Kendra (Jeremy) Alford of Independence, KS and Kendall (Anneliese) Beye of Tyro, KS. Great Granddaughters
Leah Noelle Alford and Louisa Grace Beye, his sister Cindy Birdsong of Cherryvale and honorary son Kevin C. Raney of New York, NY.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Shaaron McCoy.
The family will receive friends 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale, Kansas.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Cherryvale Alumni Association and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
