Stella May Swisher, 86, of Fredonia, Kansas, passed away, Monday, April 18, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas. Stella was born, October 12, 1935, to Pleasant and Lulu May (Cline) Honer in Paducah, Kentucky.
On August 29, 1952, Stella married Franklin D. Swisher in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1999.
Stella was a housewife and a stay-at-home mom who loved her family, reading, collecting salt and pepper shakers and crocheting. She loved dogs and was known to have rescued many.
After raising 5 children, she and Frank traveled the US, building filling stations and convenient stores. Stella and Frank also enjoyed Yellowfin tuna fishing at Point Loma, California. She was a member of the Fredonia VFW and recently had returned to her Catholic faith. Stella was a strong woman, who despite having lost 4 of her children, somehow managed to still have a love for life.
Stella is survived by her son, Frank Swisher Jr. (Gloria) of Phoenix, Arizona, brother, Walter “Dutch” (Kay) Honer of Wichita, Kansas, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition, to husband, Franklin, Stella was preceded in death by her parents; Pleasant and Lulu, sons; Richard N. Swisher, Hugene R. Swisher and Walter HW Swisher, daughter; Yvonne Penrow and grandson; Walter Swisher.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas. Visitation will be 1:00pm until service time at the funeral home.
Interment will follow services at Longton Cemetery in Longton, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels and may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
