Shirley Myers, age 78, passed away on March 29, 2006 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, MO from complications of COPD and heart disease. A part-time Fredonia resident, she also had lived on Grand Lake, OK, for many years until her illness became critical a few months ago. Shirley Rae (Beard) Myers was born March 26, 1928 in Hominy, OK; the only child of Ray and Thelma (Rich) Beard. At the age of two, the family moved back to her mother"s hometown, Fredonia; where she attended the public schools, graduating from Fredonia High School in 1946. She attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. On December 27, 1953; she married Theodore (Ted) Myers, Jr. in Fredonia. They resided in Fredonia full-time until 1970, when they moved to Grand Lake to operate a resort. Shirley was a former member of the Fredonia Unified School District 484 Board of Education; the 1910 Club, Order of the Eastern Star/Mistletoe Chapter, the Tuesday Night Bridge Club, the Matras Club, a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and MYF chaperone while raising her family in Fredonia. In Oklahoma, she was a member of the Delaware County Republican Women"s Club, the United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star/Adair Chapter, the Grand Lake Association, the South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce, Kappa Delta Mothers Club and Red Hatters. She was a member of the Fredonia United Methodist Church and an associate member of the Ketchum United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Ted, of the home and two daughters: Diana Milne and husband Arlen, of Kansas City, MO and Debra Hutchinson and husband Scot, of Arvada, CO. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Marigny Beilman and husband Sean, of Denver, CO; Taylor Hutchinson of Greeley, CO; Kelsie Hutchinson of Arvada; and two step-grandchildren: Christine Milne, of Chicago and Josh Milne, of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by both of her parents. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Timmons Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends during visitation at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fredonia United Methodist Church or the Ketchum United Methodist Church in care of Timmons Funeral Home.
