Shirley Isabel Acord, 87, of Cherryvale, Kansas peacefully passed away at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
She was born in Augusta, Kansas on March 22, 1936, the loving daughter of Leo G. Cook and Elsie (Quillen) Cook.
In her earlier years, Shirley attended Cheney High School and later pursued a career that allowed her to showcase her talents in the kitchen. Apart from cooking, she found joy in sewing, making strawberry jam, watching her grandkids, playing solitaire on the computer, and exploring various recipes.
Shirley's passion for cooking led her to work at many restaurants as a cook.
Shirley will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her companion, George Rivera, children, Lisa (Larry) Reddy of Independence, Kansas, and David Wayne (Dona) Acord of Derby, Kansas. She is also survived by her brother, Ronn (Sue) Cook of Wichita, Kansas; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leo G. Cook and Elsie Cook, brothers Jerry Cook and David Cook, and granddaughter Kimberly Meeks.
Visitation for Shirley will take place on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 P.M., at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Old Fashion Baptist Church in Independence at 2:00 PM.
Interment will follow services at Harmony Grove Cemetery.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to Narrow Way Baptist Church or Childrens Mercy Hospital, and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
Shirley Isabel Acord's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her best. May she rest in peace.
