Sherion ”Sherry” Kay Reed passed away March 17, 2019 at Diversicare of Chanute Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Chanute, KS. Sherry was born on October 18, 1943 in Clinton, AR, to Aeolus “Ode” and Hessie (Gardner) Jones. The family relocated to Chanute, Kansas when Sherry was a teenager and she was a graduate of Chanute High School in 1962.
Sherry was united in marriage on November 1, 1963 to the love of her life, Ronald “Ron” Reed. The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2018 and spent many happy years together raising their family and taking trips together.
Sherry and Ron started their family in 1964 with the birth of their first child, Daniel. Sherry was a homemaker and stay at home mother to Daniel and their daughter, Rhonda, until both children became school age, then she started working in the retail business. Sherry worked for Montgomery Ward, First National Bank, JC Penney and Walmart. After working 16 plus years at Walmart as Jewelry Department Manager, Sherry retired in order to spend time with her much loved grandson, Braxton. She enjoyed watching Braxton participate in sports and she was his biggest supporter.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Ron, of the home; daughter, Rhonda Reed of Chanute; and grandson, Braxton Reed, also of Chanute; Siblings Jerry (Jan) Jones, Linda (Dale) Shultz, Tom (SungMi) Jones and Susie (Norman) Holcomb; Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many beloved Reed family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Daniel Alan Reed on January 3, 2004.
Cremation has been requested. Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 am on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Chanute.
The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church and may be left at the church or mailed to 118 N. Forest, Chanute, KS 66720.
