Samuel H. Barker

Samuel H. Barker, 87, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Samuel H. Barker was born January 18, 1931 in Turon, Kansas the son of Frank Barker and Grace (Rieniets) Barker. He grew up in Cherryvale and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1948. He later went on to further his education at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas.
On October 14, 1956 in Cherryvale, Kansas he was united in marriage to Marlene Gilstrap and she survives at the home.
Samuel enlisted with the United States Air Force in 1952 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1956. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller while in the service and later in Memphis, Tennessee after his discharge.
He worked as a teacher in welding and machine shop at Coffeyville Vo-Tech. He also was an instructor in welding at Pittsburg State University. He continued working with Thompson Brothers in Coffeyville until his ill health forced him to retire.
Samuel enjoyed playing the guitar and liked to read. He will be remembered as a great family man and believed it had to be done the right way the first time.
He was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale and later became a member of the Hazeldell Southern Baptist Church. He was also a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene of the home, sons, Stephen Barker and his wife Terri of Copan, Oklahoma, John Barker and his wife Teresa of Cherryvale, Kansas, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Hazeldell Southern Baptist Church.

Friends and Family may sign the register book form 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas.

Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.
