Ruth Viola Darling, 95, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, formerly of Salina, Kansas, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Neodesha, Kansas. She was born November 24, 1913 in Bern, Kansas, the daughter of George Washington and Sadie (Sanders) Rogers. Ruth was a homemaker and also spent several years as a cook at St. Margaret"s Mercy Hospital in Fredonia. Ruth was married to Chester Wells, and to this union, two children were born, a son, Chuck and a daughter, Lillie. Chester preceded her in death in 1952. In 1967, Ruth married Bert Darling in Salina, Kansas. He too preceded her in death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church during the 40 years she and Bert resided in Salina. Ruth"s survivors include: One daughter-in-law: Rachel Wells of Fredonia, KS One son-in-law: Clay Honaker of Fredonia, KS One sister-in-law: Velma Rogers of Humboldt. Several nieces and nephews Ruth was also preceded in death by both of her children, Chuck Wells and Lillie Honaker, in 2006, and four siblings, Homer, Richard, Marion and Margie Rogers. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Pastor Charlotte Coates of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends 5:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. The family suggests memorial donations to the Fredonia Regional Healthcare Foundation. Family condolences may be left on this website.
