Ruth Nadine Schroder, 87, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born January 13, 1924 in Fredonia, the daughter of John Eugene and Inez P. (Wertz) Brinegar. Ruth was a 1942 graduate of Fredonia High School. On April 21, 1946 in Fredonia, Ruth was united in marriage to Bruce V. Schroder. Together they owned and operated Schroder Plumbing, retiring in October of 2007. They also owned Schroder Furniture Store in Fredonia for 20 years. Bruce preceded her in death August 10, 2008. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fredonia until it closed and most recently, was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia. Ruth enjoyed following her grandchildren"s sporting events and attended many of their games. She loved K.U. Jayhawk basketball and Kansas City Royals baseball. She was also a faithful member of the Pizza Hut Coke Girls. Her survivors include: Two sons: Jim Schroder of Springfield, IL Byron Schroder of Fredonia, KS Two daughters and sons-in-law: Pat and Mike Casteel of Fredonia, KS Penny and Gary Selves of Wichita, KS One brother and sister-in-law: Ralph and Rosemary Brinegar of Dallas, TX Seven grandchildren and spouses: Dr. Alanna and T.J. Temple of West Plains, MO Alyssa and Justin Sims of Fredonia, KS Alaura Sharp of Garden City, KS Breanne Selves of Wichita, KS Tyler Selves of Wichita, KS Chase Casteel of Haysville, KS Dodge Casteel of Garnett, KS Three great grandchildren: L.J. Temple of West Plains, MO Zoey and Zeke Sims of Fredonia, KS New granddaughter expected in six weeks, Anna Ruth Temple. Her parents; brother, Eugene Brinegar; and infant sister, Eloise Brinegar preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Timmons Funeral Home with Carl Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery with Rev. Les Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, 5:00-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Ruth"s name with the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and donations can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home.
