Royce Percy Lockhart

Royce Lockhart, 92, a resident of Altoona, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Heritage Health Care in Chanute, Kansas. He was born April 20, 1920 in Waynoka, Oklahoma, the son of Eber James and Beryl (West) Lockhart. Royce was a graduate of Waynoka High School. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altoona and attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Chanute. Royce served in World War II in the United States Army as a Corporal in field artillery. He was a gun pointer and expert rifleman and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He received the Good Conduct Medal, AP Service Ribbon, and one Bronze Service Star and American Defense Service ribbon. On May 21, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas, he married Esther Loretta Todd. She preceded him in death August 14, 1998. Royce"s survivors include: Three sons: Howard Lockhart of Buffalo, KS John Lockhart of Fredonia, KS David Lockhart of Buffalo, KS One daughter: Sue Ann Costin of Altoona, KS One brother: H.G. (Bud) Lockhart of Amarillo, TX One sister: Doris Lockhart of Amarillo, TX Thirteen grandchildren; Twenty-two great grandchildren; Ten great-great grandchildren He was preceded in death by one son, Robert in 1997; one granddaughter, Kim Lockhart Anderson in 1995; one great grandson, Austin Spencer in 1993; and one daughter-in-law, Rose Gamble Lockhart in 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Timmons Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call on Tuesday, 2:00-7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established in Royce"s name with the Bethel Baptist Church, 122 South Denman, Chanute, KS, 66720, and the First Baptist Church in Altoona, and contributions can be sent to the funeral home.
