Roger D. Surber

November 14, 1952 — December 20, 2020

Roger Dean Surber, 68, of Fredonia Kansas passed away at Fredonia Regional Hospital, with his family by his side, on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Roger was born to Howard & Vina (Jarvis) Surber November 14, 1952 in Neodesha, Kansas. Roger attended Fredonia High School, graduating in 1970.

Roger was united in marriage to Kristie Neill on January 6, 1973, she survives at their home.

Roger was a production manager at LaFarge Cement Plant for 33 years.

Roger enjoyed trips to DQ, fishing for the big one, hunting for the trophy deer, collecting classic cars, going to the movies, riding around vying for the title for the most armadillo kills, and most of all,
“b.s.-ing” with his buddies while drinking coffee. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud Dad of his daughters (and dogs), a gentle giant Papa, a devoted brother, a kindhearted uncle and a loyal friend.

Roger was a member of Fredonia Zoning Board, Old Iron Club and Meals on Wheels.

In addition to his wife, Kris, Roger is survived by his daughters, Amanda ( Nathan) Franck, Overland Park, Kansas and Ashleigh (Caleb) George, Overland Park, Kansas; beloved sister, Margaret (Kendall) Wright; brothers-in law, Bruce (Shelley) Neill, Steve (Linda) Neill; grandchildren Emmery Franck, Tessa Franck, Gibson George, Gilbert George, Gwyneth George; nieces and nephews, Shawn (Shannon) Neill, Amber Neill, Sheldon Neill, Shelby (Justan) Shinkle, Susan (Brent) Rockley, Megan (Duke) Wright, Andrew Wright, Scott, Marisa & Ryley Henschel, Reonna Faller & Denina Journet

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Grady Franck.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30am, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the First Christian Church, 303 N. 7th, Fredonia, Kansas.

Roger was truly appreciative of all his friends and family that were so kind and generous with their time in the last few weeks. He loved Fredonia. He repeatedly said, “It’s good to be home,” and was at peace going to his final home in heaven.
