Ray Dannels, 82, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born July 8, 1924 in Fredonia, the son of Arthur Edgar and Ida Elizabeth (Short) Dannels. He served in the United States Army 1943-1945, where he was awarded a bronze star. He was employed by USD 484 for more than 17 years as a custodian, retiring in 1994. On December 30, 1951 in Paramont, California, he married Anna May Rogers. She preceded him in death May 10, 1992. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Fredonia; the National Rifle Association, and AARP. His survivors include: One daughter: Constance Rae Dannels of Parsons, KS Two sons: John Edward Dannels of Fredonia, KS Robert Anthony Dannels of Fredonia, KS One sister: Irene Smith of Fredonia, KS 7 Grandchildren He was preceded in death by two brothers. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Rev. Matt Newton of the Living Hope Southern Baptist Church in Parsons officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Ft. Riley personnel. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., where the family will be present to receive friends 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the National Rifle Association and may be sent to the funeral home.
