Polly Mccabe

Esther Norine "Polly" McCabe, 89, a resident of rural Elk City, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at her home. She was born April 18, 1919 in rural Lafontaine, Kansas, the second child born to Fred and May (Tindle) McGinnis. On October 5, 1935 in Independence, Kansas, she married Meredith S. McCabe. He preceded her in death in 1990. Polly"s life was spent in service to her family and her friends, as well as her church family. She employed many ways of showing love throughout her lifetime, including tailoring and knitting garments for others, preparing meals, offering hospitality in her home and making everyone she encountered feel loved. She was a member of the Buxton Christian Church in rural Fredonia, where she served as the church organist for 31 years, as well as Sunday School teacher and youth leader for many years. She was also a member of the Gingham Aprons Unit of Elk City and the Willing Workers Club of rural Elk City. She won many awards as a member of the Machine Knitters and Demonstrators Club of Southeast Kansas. Her Survivors include: One Son and Daughter-In-Law: Randy and Varee McCabe of Elk City, KS Two Daughters and Son-In-Law: Gail Kimzey of Elk City, KS Diane and Bill Linn of Independence, KS One Brother: Wayne McGinnis Five Sisters: Fern Schnoor, Freddie Sizemore, Georgia Hendry, Belle Snyder and Kay Harvey Ten Grandchildren; Seventeen Great Grandchildren; Four Great-Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gene McGinnis and Jack McGinnis; and one son-in-law, David Kimzey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Buxton Christian Church, south of Fredonia, with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. Burial will be in the White Cemetery near Lafontaine. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Thursday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. where the family will receive friends 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
