In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart Walter Eugene Adams, and this union resulted in a little more than 70 years of marriage. She was a resident of Cherryvale, KS for most of her life, and moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma in early 2017 with her husband, Eugene. She is survived by one brother, Nathan Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; three children, Tom Adams and wife Debra of Hakalau, HI; Alan Adams and wife Irina of Stilwell, OK, and Marla Peters and husband Darrell of Olathe, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and children Dale, Wesley and Joyce and one granddaughter, Beth.
Phyllis loved playing Southern Gospel and classical music on the piano. She provided piano lessons for many years to numerous individuals. She was the church pianist for the Cherryvale Church of the Nazarene for decades. She also enjoyed embroidery and cross stitch. An avid gardener, she took a great deal of satisfaction in, not only raising the fruit, vegetables and flowers, but sharing the bounty of her garden. Amongst the family, close friends and church members, her homemade cinnamon rolls, jams and jellies, tomato juice and green tomato relish were legendary.
After moving to Stilwell, she attended the Cookson Baptist church where she enjoyed participating in various women’s groups and meetings. Upon retirement, she and Eugene spent much of their time traveling to see their children and grandchildren, but truly enjoyed traveling to the Pacific Northwest for summer vacations. Phyllis was able to make several trips to the Big Island of Hawaii to experience this tropical paradise and to enjoy time with her son and daughter-in-law.
