Phyllis Irene Greve, 88, of Chanute passed away on June 13, 2024, at Heritage Health Care. She was born September 21, 1935, in Shambaugh, Iowa to Forest and Glola (Blair) Richardson. She grew up in Iowa and Missouri before moving to Chanute in 1952. She graduated in 1953, from Chanute High School. She has made, and kept, many lifetime friends from high school. During high school, she worked at MFA COOP and the drive in movie theater north of Chanute. After high school, she sold real estate and prepared taxes for H&R Block. She was voted Miss Chanute in 1953 and represented Chanute at The American Royal in Kansas City that year.

Phyllis would go on to own and operate “Greve Income Tax” for over 30 years and helped many local families with her business skills and compassion. She also had a passion for sewing, quilting, and crocheting scrubbies which she took pleasure in sharing with so many folks.

On May 10, 1954, Phyllis married Wayne Greve at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Chanute. They were married for 50 years until his passing in 2004. Even though she was an only child, Phyllis cherished the siblings she gained from this union. Together they all enjoyed the fellowship at St. Patrick’s for many years. At the time of her passing, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Chanute.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Glola Richardson, husband Wayne Greve, and many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her children: Debra Greve of Pittsburg, KS, Daryl (Kathy) Greve of Chanute, KS, and grandchildren: Christina Cook of Las Vegas, NV, Jonathon Greve of Springfield MO, Nicholas Cook of Pittsburg, KS and Tracy (Tyler) Row of Fredonia, KS. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Clayton Cook, Liam Cook, Bethany John, Collin John, Mollie John, and Lucas Greve. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Jean Greve and Ilene (Gerald) McCoy and many nieces and nephews.

One of Phyllis’ great joys was time spent with family. She was greatly loved and will be very missed.
