Philip Webb Wilson

Philip Webb Wilson was born to Daniel Luther Wilson and Lillie Myrtle Wilson on August 3, 1921 near Columbia, Kentucky and died December 22, 2008 in Kingwood, Texas at the age of 87. At the age of 2 the family relocated to Altoona, Kansas where he graduated from Altoona High School in 1939. He worked for Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas from 1939 to 1941 when he then enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served as a Naval Aviator in both Atlantic and Pacific Theaters with Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-21 and VPB-201, until discharged in December, 1945. On January 27, 1946 he was married to Jennie Rea Paulen and relocated to Manhattan, Kansas to complete his college education. He graduated from Kansas State University with a B. S. Degree in Industrial Engineering in May, 1950 and was immediately called back in the Navy and served on the Air Craft Carrier USS Boxer with Fighter Squadron VF-884 in the Korean conflict. He was again discharged from the Navy in December, 1952. He was employed By Butler Manufacturing Company as a design engineer on transportation equipment. He was transferred to the Minneapolis operations in 1960. In 1966 he joined D. S. I. Transports in Houston, Texas as Vice President of Equipment and Maintenance. He retired From D. S. I. in 1982 and has been involved in consulting projects for the transportation industry. He was a member of Kingwood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennie Rea Wilson, his parents, a son, Eric Wilson and brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilson, 2 sons, Stephen R. Wilson and wife, Jackie of Houston and William R. Wilson and wife, Merlene of Odessa, Texas and 4 grandchildren, Shannon Marie, Jacob Earl, Joshua Alan and Jared Aaron Wilson. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Altoona Cemetery with Rev. Charlotte Coates of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
