Orven Ira Knoles, 78, of Independence, Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 12:55 A.M. at his home.Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday April 5, 2013 at the Zion Lutheran Church with Reverend Roland Vega, officiating." Friends may register Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M until 7:30 P.M. Interment will be held in the Lutheran Cemetery.Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church or School and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas" 67335.Orven Ira Knoles was born November 18, 1934 in Cherryvale, Kansas the son of Orven and Bertha (Allison) Knoles." He grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from Independence High School in 1953." He also attended Independence Junior College." Orven enlisted with the United States Army Reserves in 1953, serving on active duty from 1955-1957, attaining the rank of Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1960.On July 10, 1954 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Independence he was united in marriage to Glennyce Schultz and she survives at the home.Orven worked in the Accounting Department as a clerk for Union Gas System/ United Cities Gas Company retiring in July 1997 after 41 years.He had a favorite hobby of woodworking and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church serving on the Board of Elders, Trustees, Finance, Board of Education at the school and usher.Survivors include Glennyce of the home, three sons, Timothy Knoles and his wife Annette of Independence, KS, Greg Knoles of Olathe, KS, Mark Knoles and his wife Michelle of Winfield, KS, 5 grandchildren, Katie Knoles, Sean Knoles, Eric Knoles, Emma Knoles, Sarah Knoles, and several nephews and nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Opal Blair of Cherryvale, KS and Dorothy Kroschewsky of San Antonio, TX.
