Orlin V. Russell

Orlin V. Russell, 97, of Fredonia, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Diversicare of Chanute in Chanute, Kansas.
Orlin was born on June 12, 1922, in Elk County, Kansas, the son of Orvid Vance and Bessie Magdelena (Sloan) Russell. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1939.
On July 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Wanda Fae Russell in Fredonia, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2007.
Orlin served as an Air Traffic Controller in the Naval Air Force and later served in the Navy, He was a rancher and cattleman for many years.
Orlin was a member of Kansas Fur Harvesters Association, 1 of 7 founding members of Kansas Paint Horse Association and attended the Methodist Church. He enjoyed horses, dancing, coon hunting and trapping.
Survivors include his children, Linda Mayeske, Fredonia, Kansas and Aaron Russell, Fredonia Kansas; sisters, Margery Frusher, Ness City, Kansas and June Huerter, Overland Park, Kansas and brother-in-law George Arnel, Riverton, Kansas, eleven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Wanda, he was preceded in death by his parents, son, Robert "Bob" Russell, sisters Betty Atkins, Margaret Prange, brother, Lee Russell and infant sister, Dorothy Russell.
Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia, Kansas with Rev. Gene Benefiel, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 4, 2019 at the funeral home.
Interment will immediately follow at Fredonia City Cemetery.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Fredonia Senior Citizens Center and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
