Nellie "Maxine" Wofford

Nellie "Maxine" Wofford, 91, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, for the past 77 years, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Cherryvale Care Center in Cherryvale, Kansas. She was born June 26, 1917 in Chetopa, Kansas. Maxine was a surgical nurse aide at St. Margaret"s Mercy Hospital in Fredonia for many years. Maxine married David P. Wofford in 1940. Though David and Maxine had no children of their own, they made the community of Fredonia their family. David preceded her in death six months ago, on May 10, 2008. He was 102 years old. She was a member of the CME Church Several cousins, including Virginia Wheaton and Bud Riley, both of Fredonia, KS, and Richard Riley of Bartlesville, OK survive Maxine. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Timmons Chapel with Mike Myers officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. and Tuesday, 9:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her name with the Alzheimer"s Foundation and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
