Misty Waynette Newton

Misty Waynette Newton, 48, a lifelong resident of Altoona, Kansas, died Saturday, January 16, 2016 at her home in Altoona. She was born February 7, 1967 in Fredonia, Kansas, the daughter of Wayne and Barbara (Berckefeldt) Newton. Misty grew up east of Altoona. She attended elementary school at Zella School near Humboldt and middle school and high school in Chanute. She was a graduate of Chanute High School. For the past 10 years, she has lived by her parents" home while working at New Beginnings in Neodesha. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha. She enjoyed being active in Special Olympics, bowling and basketball. She spent many hours cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. Her favorite pastime was spending time as a "whole" family. Misty always had a smile on her face during her fight with cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. She was an inspiration to all. Misty"s survivors include: Her parents: Wayne and Barbara Newton of Altoona, KS Her brother: Shane and Heather Newton of Neodesha, KS Her nephews: Gabriel and Colton Newton of Neodesha, KS Her grandmother: Lorene Newton of Altoona, KS She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Ethel Berckekfeldt and Dale Newton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha with Pastor Jim Logan officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Misty"s name to the Grace Baptist Church Awanas Fund and New Beginnings of Neodesha and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
