Maynard F. “Mike” Hills, 76, of rural Independence, Kansas passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Maynard Fredrick Hills was born September 1, 1940 in Cherryvale, Kansas the son of Warden V. Hills and Eva M. (Corn) Hills. He grew up in Cherryvale and attended Cherryvale schools.
Mike enlisted in 1957 with United States Air Force and served until being honorably discharged in 1961.
On December 27, 1971 in Delaware, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Sharon Caldwell and she survives at the home.
Mike worked at Automotive Controls as a machinist and retired after 30 years of employment. After retirement he went back to work with Cornerstone Surveying as a land surveyor. He also worked for Four County as an After School Driver.
He will be remembered for his generosity of helping friends and for the love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mike enjoyed his Volkswagen cars, riding motorcycles and cooking. He rode his motorcycle to many places including to Seattle, Washington and Colorado.
He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, First Baptist Church and Crystalbrook Church.
Mike is survived by his wife Sharon of the home, children, Beth Rohleder of Vancouver, Washington, Ken Hills of Auburn, Washington, Rob Hills of Maple Valley, Washington, sisters, Loretta Koscelny of Delaware, Oklahoma, Shirley Logan of Independence, Kansas, 7 grandchildren, Rachele Stephenson, Joe Hills, Zach Hills, Keith Hills, Stephanie Hills, Jessica Hills, Kyler Hills, 14 great grandchildren, Austin Hills, Arabella Hills, John Hills, Keith Hills Jr., Ryan Hills, Halynn Hills, Karlyn Hills, Daniel Hills, Amelia Stephenson, Albert Stephenson, Elwin Stephenson, Maiben Stephenson, Jacob Hills and Conner Stephenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Billie June Ragan.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Wickham Family Funeral Home of Cherryvale, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
Private family interment will take place later in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project or AWOL Humane Society and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
