Maxine Wing, 96, a longtime resident of Benedict, Kansas, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Neodesha, Kansas. She was born December 23, 1917 in Wilson County, Kansas, the daughter of Charlie E. and Jenny Marie (Moffat) Nelson. Maxine was a 1936 graduate of Buffalo High School. On August 16, 1936, at the Methodist Church in Yates Center, Kansas, Maxine was united in marriage to Philip Lee Wing. He preceded her in death May 29, 2001. Maxine was a lifelong member of the High Prairie United Methodist Church and a conference and district officer for United Methodist Women. She was also very active with 4H and E.H.U. She enjoyed traveling with Philip, sewing, baking, and she enjoyed her family so much. Maxine"s survivors include: Daughters: Scarlett and Rex Ford of Tecumseh, KS Carolyn and Larry Marple of Benedict, KS Son: Mark and Karen Wing of Altoona, KS Brother: Dale Nelson of Chanute, KS Ten grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren Her parents, husband, grandchildren, Ken Wing, Gayle Ford and Brett Ford, great grandchild, Alex Ford, brothers, Gene Nelson and Darrell Nelson, and sister, Pauline Carlson preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, August 11, 2014 at the High Prairie United Methodist Church with Pastor Jimmy Yoo officiating. Burial will be in the High Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, 5:00-7:00 PM at Timmons Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in Maxine"s name with the High Prairie United Methodist Church and contributions can be sent to or left with Timmons Funeral Home.
