Maxine Wescott

Maxine Wescott, 96, longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Morningstar Care Home in Neodesha, Kansas. She was born December 11, 1925, in Fredonia, Kansas, the daughter of Lee R. and Hettie (Bauman) Brock. Maxine married George D. Wescott on July 30, 1944, at the First Christian Church Parsonage in Fredonia and he preceded her in death November 4, 2015. Maxine retired from The Kansas Banknote Company in 1989, where she was the first woman to run a printing press. Maxine was a member of the First Christian Church and the Fredonia Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed her Canasta Club girlfriends, coffee with friends on Tuesday mornings at the Western Diner and loved spending time with her family. Maxine and George took to the road RV’ing with the trips to Texas every winter for 20 years after they retired.

Her survivors include:

Four children: Lee Ann O’Brien of Springfield, MO; Dail Martin (Janice) Wescott of Coyville, KS; Jon Steven (Nancy) Wescott of Willard, MO; Mark Randall (Toni) Wescott of Altoona, KS.

Nine grandchildren: Angie Wescott, Jeanna Wescott Hood, Bill O’Brien, Mary O’Brien Dennis, Bud Wescott, Steven Wescott, Jay Wescott, Jodi Wescott and T.R. Wescott; Nine great grandchildren: Jesse Poindexter, Waylon Wescott, Zoe Hood, Paul W. Hood, Liam Dennis, Seamus Dennis, Rory Dennis, Ian Wescott and Issac Wescott. Great Great Grandsons: Jentry Poindexter and Jensen Poindexter.

Her parents; sister, Frances N. Loya; son-in-law, William P. O’Brien and great granddaughter, McKenzie Poindexter, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 2:00pm, Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Fredonia City Cemetery under the direction of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia Kansas.

A memorial in Maxine’s name is with the Fredonia Senior Center and contributions may be sent or left at the funeral home.
