Max Barney Farwell, 86, passed away on February 18, 2025, at Morningstar Care Center in Fredonia, Kansas.
He was born on August 19, 1938, in Neodesha, Kansas, to Max and Ruth Farwell. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1957 and was a cattle rancher for most of his life.
He married Linda Shields on June 30, 1960, and they had two children, Beth Shaver (Mike) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Chuck (Terri) Farwell of Fredonia, sister, Karyl (Jim) Flaming of Nacogdoches, Texas. Max and Linda were blessed with four grandchildren, Max (Cassie) Shaver of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Abby (Joel) Sanders of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Hayes (Taylor) Farwell of Olathe, Kansas, and Mali (Cody) Boss of Chanute, Kansas, sister, Karyl (Jim) Flaming of Nacogdoches, Texas. Their blessings continued with seven great-grandchildren, Joel, Dominik, Emma, Myla, Nolan, Henry and Liam.
Max was a kind man and he was gentle, humble and hard-working. He never met a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had the gift of making a person feel comfortable and at ease. He lived his life well, with a quiet strength that drew people to him. Over the years, he touched many lives and he will be missed.
A celebration of Max’s life will be held in the spring at the Farwell ranch. Details will be published at a later time. A donation in Max’s memory can be made to the Fredonia Animal Pound. Cremation has taken place. Wickham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
