MAURINE TIPTONMaurine Tipton, 101, of Cherryvale passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Cherryvale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Cherryvale United Methodist Church with Reverend Susan Brown, officiating." Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale, Kansas.Friends may sign the register book Monday, August 26, 2013 from 12Noon until 8:00 P.M. at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas." The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.Memorial remembrances are suggested to Cherryvale United Methodist Church, Macular Degeneration Foundation or Alzheimer"s Association.Ethel Maurine Tipton was born July 2, 1912 in Eureka, Kansas the daughter of Orr and Goldie Henderson." She grew up in Kansas City until the 6th grade when she moved to Thayer, Kansas and graduated from Thayer High School in 1930." After graduation she attended Emporia State Teachers College and in September of 1930 began teaching all eight grades at Lone Elm School west of Thayer for 3 years." In 1933 she taught at Village Creek School west of Chanute to be closer to her parents.On April 29, 1934 in Chanute, Kansas Maurine was united in marriage to Harry D. Tipton and he preceded her in death in 1970.Along with her husband in 1944 they partnered with Ammon Markley and operated the Markley and Tipton Grocery at 200 block of West Main in Cherryvale." She later worked at Bell Grocery for 9 years.In 1962 Maurine was appointed Deputy City Clerk for the City of Cherryvale." After many years of service in 1970 she became City Clerk of Cherryvale retiring in 1982.She was a member of the Cherryvale United Methodist Church serving on nearly every committee at one time or another, 76 year member of Eastern Star, 63 year member of PEO and many other civic organizations in Cherryvale.Survivors include daughter, Marilyn Flanders of Cherryvale, Kansas, 3 grandchildren Liz Hucke and her husband Randy of Cherryvale, Kansas, Patty McWhirter and her husband Preston of Allen, Texas, Randy Flanders of Cherryvale, Kansas, 5 great grandchildren, Mitchell, Andrea, Lauren, Mandy, Carrie, 2 great great grandchildren, Mason and Emma.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Howard and George Henderson
