Maurice Earl Wooten, 82, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born July 9, 1926 in Wilson County, Kansas, the son of George Robert and Cora Etta (Harman) Wooten. Maurice was a pub mill operator for 38 years at the Fredonia Brick Plant. He also worked as an operator at the Water Plant for the City of Fredonia, retiring in 1991. Throughout the years, Maurice farmed for Lester Stryker and Gerald and Etta Mae Manning. He also managed the local delivery of the Wichita Eagle for many years. On June 29, 1947 in Fredonia, Maurice married Katie Marvene Swank. She preceded him in death August 25, 2000. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Fredonia where he had served as a deacon. Much of his free time was spent fishing and hunting. Maurice"s survivors include: Two daughters: Mary E. Craig of Carrollton, TX Carolyn S. Wacker of Hutchinson, KS Four sons: David E. Wooten of Fredonia, KS Michael R. Wooten of Fredonia, KS Philip B. Wooten of Clarksdale, MS Paul R. Wooten of Fredonia, KS One sister: Etta Mae Manning of Fredonia, KS Eight Grandchildren Six Great-Grandchildren In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Maggie Palmer; and twin-daughters, Sharon and Karen Wooten. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ray Pile officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in Maurice"s name with Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and First Assembly of God Church may be sent to the funeral home.
