Mary M. (Goff) Smith

Mary M. (Goff) Smith, 95, of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at her home with family by her side.


Mary M. (Goff) Smith was born August 27, 1922 in New Albany, Kansas the daughter of Ulysses “Bud” Goff and Ruby (Craven) Goff.

On February 15, 1938, she was united in marriage to Everett “Pete” Smith and he preceded her in death August 12, 1999. Mary and Pete were both baptized April 17, 1983 at the First Christian Church in Fredonia.

Mary was a homemaker and worked as a Ward Clerk at St. Margaret’s Mercy Hospital for many years.

Her favorite hobbies were playing cards and games, traveling, crafts, baking pies, horses, animals and puzzles. She will be remembered as a sweet, caring friend and neighbor who loved her family and taught them how to love others.

Mary was a member of Good Sam’s Camping Club, First Christian Church of Fredonia, Fredonia Saddle Club, Hospital Auxiliary and Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include children, Jeanette Brooks of Pensacola, Florida, Edna Smith of Fredonia, Kansas, grandchildren, Natalie Smith Eastman (Mark), Sherry Smith Maxwell (Lyle), Julie Smith, Debbie Brooks Brown, Melissa Brooks Swanson (Doug), great grandchildren, Ashley Eastman, Brandon Eastman, Tanner Maxwell, Kristen Torrey (Maxwell), Kalli Maxwell, Abby Hutchcraft (Baker), Jade Baker, Sawyer Baker, Tucker Baker, Will Brown, Jennifer Kerbew (Brown), Nathan Swanson, Lauren Swanson, great great grandchildren, Zoey Brown and Madilyn Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Jack Smith, grandson, Kevin Brooks and five brothers.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th, Fredonia, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Weakley Cemetery in New Albany.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Christian Church Thrift Shop or Fredonia Senior Center and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
