Martha J. "Martie" Richardson, a resident of Independence, Kansas, formerly of Fredonia, Kansas, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Montgomery Place in Independence. She was born April 14, 1944 in Fredonia, the daughter of Glenn R. and Mildred Mohe (Russell) Noakes. Martie was a graduate of Fredonia High School and attended Coffeyville Junior College and Wichita State University. She owned and operated Bookworm Gently Used Books in Independence for many years. Martha was joined in marriage to Clinton Richardson and to this union, one son, Glenn Allen, was born. Clinton preceded her in death March 27, 1993, and her son, Glenn, preceded her in death September 6, 2000. Martie and her longtime companion, Harry Nelson, made their home in Independence. Martie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1186. Survivors, in addition Harry include: Her sister: Bette J. Russell of Topeka, KS Her niece: Sheree Lovich of Topeka, KS Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Fredonia City Cemetery with Pastor Charlotte Coates of the First United Methodist Church officiating. A memorial has been established in Martie"s name with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1186 and donations can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence for the family may be left on this website.
