Mark Randall Sewell, 49, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, formerly of Texas, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born June 5, 1962 in Independence, Kansas, the son of Donald and Myrtle (Frye) Sewell. Mark was a 1980 graduate of Tulsa Union High School and attended Independence Community College. He was a disabled combat veteran. On June 9, 2000, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Mark was united in marriage to Linda Rassman. Linda survives at their home. Mark was a veteran of the Peacetime and Gulf War Era, serving in the United States Army Ranger Special Forces, SP4. Mark was a highly decorated soldier, earning the Bronze Star Medal and Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, among his honors. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Disabled American Veterans, and Fredonia Senior Center. He devoted many volunteer hours to the Fredonia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and the Fredonia Arts Council. His favorite pastimes included fishing and sharing his artistic nature through his gift of painting. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Linda, include: His father: Don Sewell of Fredonia, KS Two sons: Bryan Sewell of Olathe, KS Garrett Sewell of Michigan One daughter: Hailey Sewell of Michigan Two brothers: Steven Sewell of Texas City, TX David Sewell of El Dorado, KS Several aunts, uncles and cousins. His mother, Myrtle Sewell, preceded him in death. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Charlotte Coates and Rev. Gale Ellis officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Altoona Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Mark"s name with Disabled American Veterans and contributions can be sent to the funeral home.
