Marjorie LaVerne Cockrum, 77, a resident of rural Altoona, went to be with Jesus, her best friend, on Monday, November 22, 2010 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born November 21, 1933 in Stroud, Oklahoma, the daughter of J.C. and Bessie Logue. On June 4, 1956 at Weatherford, Oklahoma, she married James E. Cockrum. They made their home in Potwin until 1989, when they moved to the farm near Altoona. Mr. Cockrum survives at their rural home. Marjorie was a member of the First Christian Church in Potwin and Altoona. She was an avid reader, especially her bible. She is remembered for her great apple and pumpkin pies. Survivors in addition to her husband, Jim, include: Three children: Marsha Faye Heard of Wichita, KS Leon Edwin Cockrum of Hesston, KS Lynda Jane Jensen of Valley Center, KS One sister: Dorothy Littleton of Blackwell, OK Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, and two children, Lisa Jo Cockrum and Calvin James Cockrum. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Altoona Christian Church. Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Whitewater Cemetery in Whitewater, Kansas. A memorial has been established in Marjorie"s name with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence for the family may be left on this website.
