Marie Opal Stewart-Robbins

Marie Opal Stewart-Robbins, a resident of rural Yates Center, Kansas, formerly of Fredonia, Kansas, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at her home. She was born February 1, 1923 in Fredonia, the daughter of Robert Earnest and Orpha Viola (Miller) Stewart. She was a graduate of Fredonia High School and Wichita Business School. Marie was the owner and agent of Stewart-Robbins Insurance Company in Fredonia for more than 40 years, assuming the business that had been in the Stewart family for three generations. At the time of her retirement, Stewart-Robbins Insurance Company was the oldest insurance company in the state of Kansas. Marie was married to Jack E. Palmer for 35 years. They were later divorced. In July of 1975, she married Leonard Robbins and he survives at their home. She was a member of the Yates Center Christian Church. She served as the Justice of the Peace in Wilson County for several years. She had also been a member and served as president of the Business and Professional Women"s organization and the Teen Town Board in Fredonia. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Leonard, include: One daughter: Dr. Jacqueline (Palmer Connelly) Stewart of Girard, KS One grandson: Shawn Michael Connelly of Farlington, KS One great grandson: Brandon Connelly of Farlington, KS Four step-sons and one step-daughter She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George R. Stewart and Claude Stewart; two sisters, Vera Toomey and Fern Enoch. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
