Margery Streets Whitney, 98, of Wauconda, IL passed away at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Born November 21, 1912 in Altoona, Kansas, to Arthur and Sarah Streets, Margery often spoke of her wonderful childhood with her family growing up in Altoona and her respect for her parents. She taught elementary school in Altoona and later worked for Koss Construction Company where she met her future husband Edgar (Whit) Brooks Whitney. Margery married Whit on January 16, 1944 and they had one son, Robert Brooks Whitney, who survives. After WWII, Whit returned to Koss as office manager, paving highways and airports, mainly in Missouri. The family moved often from job to job living in a mobile home. They bought a house in Springfield, MO in 1952 where Koss wintered. Margery stayed with Robert in Springfield during his Junior and High School years joining Whit in the summers. During winter, Whit would join the family in Springfield. Whit passed away in 1997 and Margery remained in Springfield until 2008 when she moved to live with her son in Wauconda. Margery cared deeply for her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She was a devout Methodist, loved singing in school events, playing the piano, and traveling with Whit when he retired in 1977. Margery is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Reed Streets, and sister Polly Streets. She is survived by her son; grandson Robert, Jr., his children James, Jessica, and Joelle, and their mother Amy O'Connor; granddaughter Mary (Mike) Edwards and their children Austin and Shane. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Altoona Cemetery with Rev. Charlotte Coates of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
