Madgelene "Madge" Ellen Gertrude (Warren) Beggs, 89, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Fredonia. She was born in Haswell, Colorado, November 14, 1923 to Clarence and Goldie (Hill) Warren. After graduation, she moved to Wichita where she was employed in office work at Boeing Aircraft for the war effort. In 1944, Madge was united in marriage to George Beggs in Columbus, Kansas. The next two years were spent in service with the Marine Corps, followed by a move to Cedar Vale, Kansas, where George was hired to teach music. In 1959, they moved to Fredonia where George began a twenty-two year career as the instrumental music instructor. Madge was employed at the Daily Herald for eight years and at USD 484 library services for twelve years. Madge was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia and of Chapter N, P.E.O. sisterhood. In addition to her husband George, Madge is survived by: one daughter: Georgia Manguoglu of Salina, Kansas one granddaughter: Heather Jones of San Francisco, California Two brothers: Donald Warren of Seattle, Washington and Roger Warren of Key Largo, Florida four sisters: Elaine Stewart of Pueblo, Colorado; Sylvia Grasmich of La Junta, Colorado; Carol Millard of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Joyce Toon of Branson, Missouri. The four youngest siblings, Donald, Ronald, Roger and Joyce grew up in the Beggs home after their parents died in 1947. One brother, Emil Warren was killed in Italy while serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. Madge was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Warren, Robert Warren, and Ron Warren; one sister Helen Krause; and one grandson Steven Jones. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Mike Myers officiating. A memorial has been established in Madge's name with the Fredonia Public Library and donations may be sent or left with Timmons Funeral Home. Timmons Funeral Home, PO Box 168, Fredonia, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements.
