Lyle Dean Wilson

Lyle Dean Wilson, age 64, of Edwardsville, Kansas, died of cancer on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, after being diagnosed in early 2021. Lyle was born on August 30, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas to H. Dean and Opal (Parker) Wilson. He studied theatre at the University of Kansas.

Lyle worked in a variety of customer service positions. He particularly enjoyed the 23 years he spent in San Diego, California, working in the theatre and gaming industries and especially his time at the Old Globe Theatre Company, La Jolla Playhouse, and Icarus Puppet Company. He also served on the Board of Directors for Icarus Puppet Company. Most recently, Lyle worked for Maximus call center in Lawrence, Kansas.

Lyle enjoyed reading, especially science fiction and fantasy. He attended ConQuesT, Kansas City’s science fiction convention, a number of years, often timing his trip home to Kansas to coincide with the convention. While in college, Lyle developed a passion for Dungeons & Dragons and other roleplaying games that continued throughout his life, developing special friendships in these groups. He enjoyed being an uncle to Jesi and Mary and great-uncle to Isabella. Being confirmed at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka, he later joined Lenexa United Methodist Church in Lenexa, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Wilson. He is survived by his father, H. Dean Wilson of Topeka, KS; his sister, Linda (Keith) Stokes of Lenexa, KS, and her children, Jesi Lipp of Kansas City, KS and Mary (Nicholas) Clow of Shawnee, KS; and great-niece, Isabella Clow.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, October 18, at 10 a.m. at Lenexa United Methodist Church, 9138 Caenen Lake Road, Lenexa, KS 66215. A brunch with an opportunity to greet the family will follow at the church. Graveside service will be at 4:30 p.m. at Fredonia City Cemetery, South Cement Plant Road, Fredonia, Kansas, followed by a dinner at Fredonia Golf Club, 9711 Harper Rd.

Per Lyle’s request, anyone not vaccinated against COVID-19 should wear a mask.
