Lorene Marie Newton

Lorene Marie Newton, 99 1/2, resident of Altoona, Kansas passed away, Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Fredonia Morningstar Assisted Living. Lorene was born November 14, 1923, in Neodesha, Kansas to Frank and Rosella (Duft) Hare. Lorene attended and graduated from Neodesha High School. On February 17, 1941, Lorene was united in marriage to Dale Newton in Elk City, Kansas. They were married for 62 years until his passing on May 28, 2003. To this union, were born, Janice, Wayne and Larry.

In addition to helping her husband on the farm, Lorene worked at the Egg Plant and the Sewing Factory in Chanute Kansas and Burke Printing in Fredonia, Kansas. Lorene was a member of the Altoona Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas. Lorene enjoyed working in her garden, being outdoors, square dancing, crafts, crocheting, working puzzles and spending time with family and friends. She could take a plant that was on its last leg and bring it back to life.

She was a wonderful cook. The grandkid’s favorite meal she made was chicken and noodles, fresh corn and homemade hot rolls. She loved to can fresh vegetables out of her garden and root beer floats.

Lorene is survived by her daughter; Janice (Quentin) Morrow of Fredonia, Kansas, Grandchildren; Anna (Wendell) Miller of Bellevue, Nebraska, Rose (Randy) Reutlinger of Fredonia, Kansas, Calvin (Deana) Morrow of Humboldt, Kansas, Alvin(Kristin) Morrow of Fredonia, Kansas, Great Grandchildren; Rose(Michael) Tormohlem of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah (Nathan) Bostic of Navarre Florida, Kayla (Roberto) Romero of Bellevue, Nebraska, Amy (Eric) Studebaker of Fredonia, Kansas, Laice Williamson of Wichita, Kansas, Amanda (Luke) Green of Fredonia, Kansas, Tiffany (Mike) Miller of Humboldt, Kansas, Tyler (Cara) Thomas of Humboldt, Kansas, Justin (Amber) Morrow of Derby, Kansas, Tory (Victoria) Thomas of Paola, Kansas, Laeken (Sean) Frazier of Wellsville, Kansas, Kaleb Morrow of Erie, Kansas, Alex Morrow of Fredonia, Kansas, Kadance Morrow of Fredonia, Kansas and 26 Great-Grandchildren.

Son; Larry (Connie) Newton of Buffalo, Kansas, Grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Newton of Altoona, Kansas, Jaime (Jason) Costin of Chanute, Kansas, Great- Grandchildren; Kaitlyn (Griffin) Cooper of Leawood, Kansas, Hayden Newton of Altoona, Kansas, Jaden Costin of Pittsburg, Kansas and Jacie Costin of Chanute, Kansas.

Sister; Darlene Ellis of Neodesha, Kansas.

In addition to her husband, Dale, Lorene was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rosella Hare, brothers; Leonard, Leroy and Lawrence Hare, sister; Letha Berry, Granddaughter; Misty Newton and infant sister; Stellean Hare.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Altoona Cemetery with Jim Logan officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Gentiva Hospice or Morningstar and may be mailed to or left at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
