Lillian Lucille "Millie" (Miller) Aufdengarten, age 96 of Rolla, Missouri went home with the Lord on 17 January 2016. She was born April 14, 1919 in Admire Kansas to Edgar Fremont Miller and Gladys Marie (Gibby) Miller. She was married to Charles Henry Aufdengarten on November 29, 1944 in Manhattan KS. They had four children: David Henry, John Edgar, Mary Jane, and James Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, brothers (Albion and Marion), her son James Lee and great granddaughter, Kamryn Aufdengarten. She is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived the majority of her life in Kansas and loved to sing, "I"m From Kansas". After graduating from Admire High School, she attended and graduated from Newman Memorial School of Nursing in Emporia Kansas. She started her career at K-State University Health Clinic/Hospital, worked in Public Health Nursing and at various hospitals as a Staff Nurse and Supervisor. She was an American Red Cross Nurse during WW2. After 44 years of nursing she retired and loved to travel, creating arts and crafts, playing bridge, scrabble and visiting with family and friends. She celebrated 75 yrs with Eastern Star in a ceremony at Vintage Park in Fredonia KS in 2014. She moved to Rolla in March 2015 and lived at Silverstone Place Nursing Home where she became a part of their family. She said her prematurely white hair gave her the right to tell it like it is and she loved to laugh. She was an accomplished cello player in her younger days and loved to play the piano and organ. She loved to sing and harmonize and cited her Welsh background as the seed for all music ability. Big 12 Basketball was a love and especially at March Madness rooting for K-State and KU. She will be greatly missed by her children: David H. (Sharon) Aufdengarten of Washington KS; John E (Kathy) Aufdengarten of Malone New York; and Mary Jane Aufdengarten of Rolla MO; Her Grandchildren Brian H (Diana) Aufdengarten of Wellington KS; Eric Aufdengarten (Joe) of Los Angeles California; Gina (Lock) Schnelle of Wellington Ks; Chris (Trinity) Bilodeau of Piedmont OK; Joshua (Tasha) Aufdengarten of Hector AR; Jessica (Craig) Carpenter of Scott Air Force Base IL. The 13 Great Grandchildren include Kylie, Kadynce, and Kyan Aufdengarten; Addison, Kenzie, Logan, and Rylee Lillian Schnelle; Jasmine, Javen, and Jett Aufdengarten; Harrison and Owen Carpenter; nieces, nephews, and many friends in KS and MO. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 23 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM with the funeral following visitation at 1:30 PM at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, KS. Her Grandson, Pastor Josh Aufdengarten, will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fredonia Arts Council for Childrens Programs or Newman Memorial School of Nursing, Gladys M. Miller Scholarship Program.
