Leland "Lee" R. Joy

Leland “Lee” R. Joy, 62, of Benedict Kansas, passed away, Thursday, September 9, 2021, at his home. Lee was born August 22, 1959, in Neodesha Kansas to Jack and Linda (Kingsbury) Joy. He attended and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1977.

Lee worked at the Joy’s Brick business as a stone mason and later worked at the Water Works Department in Wichita, Kansas. Lee worked construction in the Mill Wright Division at Evergreen in Neodesha and 20 plus years and at Alert as a supervisor in the Mill Wright Division.

Lee was united in marriage to Laurie Dill on April 11, 1979 in Benedict, Kansas. They later divorced.
He later married Cheryl Hamilton on November 29, 1985 in Delmar, New York.

Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting, coloring, writing poems, attending concerts and collecting shirts. In his earlier years, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and collecting hats. He will be remembered for his love for his family.

In addition to his wife, Lee is survived by his mother, Linda Dodson, children; Katrina (David) Jay, Elk City, Kansas, James (Nita) Hamilton, Palm Springs, California, Jim (Lilly) Hamilton, Tulsa, Oklahoma, sisters; Katie (Kevin) Bowen, Leroy, Kansas and Kathy (Johnny) Watts Mobile, Alabama, eight grandchildren and many others who loved him.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, brother, Travis Ray Joy, all of his grandparents and brother-in-law, Danny Rowden.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held, 10:00 am, Friday, September 17, 2021 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas.

Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
