Lavon Gibson, 94, a lifelong resident of the Altoona, Kansas, area, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at her rural home. She was born July 6, 1915 near Thayer, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Hattie (Moraign) Stiles. When Lavon was 2" years old, her mother died. At the age of 3, she was adopted and raised by her uncle and aunt, Charles and Sadie Stiles. She was a graduate of Altoona High School. On December 25, 1933 in Altoona, she married Irvin Gibson. He preceded her in death June 14, 1985. Lavon was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia. She was a former member of the LOL Club of Altoona, Tuesday Study Club in Fredonia, where she was a past president, a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. She is survived: Two daughters and sons-in-law: Dee Anna and Jim Corns of Golden, Missouri Lee Donna and David Cranor of Georgetown, Texas One brother: Louis Stiles of Clemmons, North Carolina Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren In addition to her husband, Irvin, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn Kay Gibson on June 20, 1993; one son, Mark Gregory Gibson on April 19, 1996; five brothers, Coy, Charles, Norman, Harry and Carl; and three sisters, Beulah Holloway, Eva Shoaf Shockey and Virgie Carver Ramey. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Timmons Chapel with Rev. Jim Bell of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Wednesday, 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M.
